rehabilitating?
You may think that placing teens in juvenile hall is fixing the problem, but is it really? In an article written by Sparky Harlan he states that studies have found that only 12 percent of the 150,000 youth placed in juvenile detention nationally committed serious crimes.
As well as in the detention centers, schools aren't doing a very good job at punishing the kids fairly. Schools may have times where its necessary to administer suspensions or expulsions but rather then actually investigating further more into the problem they're just giving these out on zero-tolerance. If people don't notice this from afar the students themselves are aware of it. The students know when they are in an environment where punishments are not issued fairly this comes with challenges that these students must face because of the unfair treatment.
Not only do they waste the kid's time but the community's money. These facilities do not do their best jobs at rehabilitating their youth because a large portion of the kids there shouldn't even be there! Juvenile hall should be a place of reflection and it works for some kids but not everyone, because not all have committed crimes worth punishing so harshly.
Therefore supporting my own belief that juvenile hall may not be the best form of rehabilitation for these adolescents
